KCH Acknowledged for Role in Kane Area Relay for Life
Plaques were presented March 31 to co-captains of the KCH Kaleidoscopers 2009 and 2010 Relay for Life teams, the top
fundraising team for the American Cancer Society's (ACS) Kane Area Relay for Life.
The plaques presented Thursday have now joined the second place team finish plaque from 2008 already in the display case at
KCH.
While KCH will not have a team in 2011, it will be a Kane Area Relay sponsor and hospital partner as to delivery of care and ACS
services. KCH houses an ACS Wig Room for those in need of wigs, hats and scarves as a result of chemo and expects to host
the Look Good, Feel Better program at the hospital, a program led by local cosmetologists on skin care and makeup during
treatment. (Local, licensed cosmetologists interested in being trained to lead the program at KCH may call Ruth Peterson at 814-837-6098 to learn more about this volunteer opportunity.)
ACS has joined forces with KCH to help support KCH's Ladies Night Out (September 15) a community sponsored, fun-filled night,
of information and education as well as great food, lots of pampering and free gifts for women of the area. This
event's educational purpose is to share the importance of mammography for the early detection of breast cancer, when it is most
treatable. At Ladies Night Out area women sign up for digital mammography as a prelude to October's National Breast Cancer
Awareness Month. As a results of last year's effort, community funds raised will help pay for mammography for uninsured or
underinsured women.
Pictured are Shane Laune, Health Initiatives Representative, American Cancer Society; Amy Peterson, LPN, co-chair of the 2009

of the 2010 KCH Team and Fran Stewart, CIDS: McKean, Potter, Cameron Counties, American Cancer Society.
Unavailable for the photo was the Chair of the KCH Teams for 2009-1010, Luanne Larson. While no longer a KCH employee, she
is part of the KCH family as receptionist for Kane Internist Gary Anderson, D.O.
